Paranormal Telly: Dresden Files

Hey there readers:

As you can tell I have been recentely watching a lot of Netflix, I have shared my love of Blood Ties with Vicki Nelson, well there is now Harry Dreseden from the Dreseden Files. I have always been recommended the books but as always I'm stubborn and never looked into them, so when I saw on Netflix they have the show I though Huh why not??

I wasn't disappointed, this show is actually really good. I have never seen the actor who places Dresden and I was not disappointed, the story lines were great, moving fluidly without dragging and left the audience wondering what was coming up next. 

I really love the show because there is so many little witchy moments, especially when he casts his circles; the vision of his wards, it's all so awesome. It's one of the few shows I have seen where there is a little bit of truth to some of his workings.  The run on joke on the show is that he is a little too old to be "Harry" as in "Harry Potter". Harry's best friend lives in his own skull, I mean literally Bob was a wizard who did something really wrong for love and was trapped in his skull as punishment.

I love to watch shows and think five steps ahead and usually will guess the endings of the show, but with this show I sometimes found myself guessing wrong and wondering" WOW. why didn't I see that coming". The sad part? It only had one season. You can sill enjoy it thoughl make sure to check it out on Hulu as well as on Netflix. Best part? It's free!!

KWW: Paella

Hello Readers
I haven't done one of these in a while, so I thought I would share last night's dinner. Today's recipe is a Mediterranean  One Pot feast of the senses.  it's Paella, now there are many different versions of this recipe, but this is one of my favorite versions. This also makes a great use it instead of waste it meals, one of my best girlfriends makes this whenever she has left over chicken in her fridge.

Ingredients:
3 cups rice
3 cups chicken, cubed
5 cups chicken broth or water
1 medium onion
3 cloves garlic
2 escallions (green onion)
1/2 cup olive oil
2-3 sprigs of fresh rosemary (1-2 tsp of dried rosemary)
12 or more clams or mussels (cleaned and de-bearded) *can be fresh or prepackaged qucik heat* 
1-2 filets of white fish (tilapia, whiting, or flounder works well)
1 1/2 cups shrimp *precooked works fine*
1 cup diced tomatoes
1 cup peas (corn) *frozen works fine*
1 1/2 cups chopped beans *frozen works fine*
Saffron (or 1 packet Sazon' Goya seasoning if you can't find saffron)
1 tsp each pepper, sage, marjoram, 
Salt to taste (optional)
Sausage (optional) * can replace the fish for this*.

Directions:

• Chop up seasonings and set aside, chop up meats & fish and set aside
• Heat 1/2 cup olive oil in a deep pan, once heated add in onion & garlic, cook until translucent, add in chicken. Stir often until chicken is partially cooked (if adding in sausage add in now and cook with chicken)~~ about 10 mins
• To this add tomatoes, beans, and peas/corn, stir well and allow to cook ~~ 10 mins
• Add in chicken broth/water ~~ Bring to boil
• Once boiled add in saffron/Sazon ~~ allow to cook about 10 mins
• KEEP STIRRING
• Add in seasonings, and mix well add in rice and STIR well
• Cover and turn down to med/low heat, allow rice to cook
• Once rice has soaked up most of the water, add in cooked shrimp & your fish~~ cover and allow to finish cooking

In the meantime in a separate pot:

• If using fresh clams/mussels: add 2 cloves garlic to 2 tbsp butter and allow butter to melt, stir the garlic to prevent burning,  toss in mussels/clams and cover down, shake  and allow them to pop open, 
• Quickly remove those that have opened. And add more until all desired are open, toss any that don't open.
• If using packaged mussels/clams follow the instructions found on the package on how to prepare.
• set aside until the end of the meal

Once the main dish is ready you can add in the clams/mussels last and stir well or you can add the mussels/clams last arranged around the dish.

My Review:

I'll admit, I read this book years ago, when it first came out, I have been a Feehan fan for years. Then I got way too absorbed with other things & stopped reading for a while. This year I decided to read more of the books I have unfinished on my shelves before buying the rest of those on my list. To truly understand Feehan's books I like to read the whole series before jumping into the newer ones. I like knowing the background of the characters, it adds something to the story.  Once again I picked up my favorite book from the series, because for me this is where the series really got good.  Unlike the female characters before who played at being strong, or self sufficient, Savannah actually did what was necessary to have her own life.  I'm not too fond of their first few moments as a couple together, but I guess it proves the story arc, that he almost waited too long.

The concept of the Carpathian race being different from the vampires, is pretty cool, it allows Ms Feehan to have her own world without making or breaking the "known" lore of the vampires.  She can create her own language, myths & legends; even their own rituals, with no one being able to say "Yay" or "nay".

Pros of the story: it's a very erotic romance between a man deeply ingrained in the Old World mentality, who becomes a little more modernized as he falls in love with Savannah.  Savannah is a strong character.  They 'realistically' build a relationship which is aided by finely honed instincts which gives them a greater advantage over our own human methods, yet doesn't prevent any of the fireworks that comes from building & melding two completely different lives.  & the love scenes are very steamy.  The characters although seemingly 'perfect" had their own faults & insecurities which they had to work on separately & together, which made the lvoe story even more appealing.

Cons of the story: Gregori sometimes borders or even actually does some 'caveman/chauvinistic" antics and we are to accept that this is okay because he is Carpathian and he loves her. O_O 

It only works because in everything else Gregori has had to be brought (with a little kicking involved) into the modern world of living with Savannah. I thoroughly enjoyed her schooling him on "modern" women, Very steamy, the story was very well written. I loved it I love to re-read this one when I'm bored reading 'regular' books. 

It's one of my favorite Carpathian books, and one I enjoy re-reading. I hope you will enjoy it too.

How are you doing on your 13 Goals?

Recently I have been transcribing my many notebooks into a online book of shadows *well not really online but in my computer anyway* with the ultimate goal of printing it out on parchment, 'aging' the pages & getting it bound. My locally owned print company is willing to do it for a pretty good price so why not?? Anywoo, as I was doing this I ran across so many things I had forgotten, including these, the 13 goals of a witch written by Scott Cunningham, looking at them I couldn't help but think, jeez this would make a good post, a look back at the basics, to see if I still have them down. Why not read on and see, and think to yourself: "How many of the 13 can I honestly say I have done or am constantly doing?"

Thirteen Goals of a Witch

Ø  Know yourself ~~ This one I'm pretty good at but each day I learn something new about myself

Ø  Know your Craft~~~ uh you learn something new everyday, especially by 'accident'

Ø  Learn~~~~ That's a given I read alot, try to practice as much of what I read as possible doesn't always work but hey at least i'm trying

Ø  Apply Knowledge with Wisdom~~~ Yeah if only, hindsight is 20/20, hell sometimes even better than that

Ø  Achieve Balance~~~ this is a daily/weekly struggle

Ø  Keep your thoughts in good order~~~ If only this always worked, Lupus fog is a bitch...what was i saying?

Ø  Keep your words in good order~~~ i gotta really get this one down, cause really, these awkward moments...not the life for me. At. ALL O_o

Ø  Celebrate Life~~~ Finally one I know I have pretty much down pat

Ø  Attune with the cycles of the Earth~~ A whole lot easier said than done, especially when you work countershifts to the rest of the world, when I'm just getting home, most people are waking up to start their day. hard to attune when your trying to sleep during the day. 

Ø  Breathe & Eat Correctly~~~ As I was typing this into my computer book of shadows I was eating a snickers bar, so yeah this one is one I'm working on constantly

Ø  Exercise the Body~~~  Ha!! This is a big fat FAIL, check back to attune to cycles, I swear I'm getting better than before.. Le huge sigh

Ø  Meditate~~ Another one I'm pretty good at, but I'm now finding I need to change my routine to get a better meditation schedule down. Well at least I'm not falling asleep anymore

Ø  Honor the Goddess and the God~~~ and of course this one is a given, I talk to them like they are my friends, while walking, cleaning, taking a shower, heck they see you in all your 'glory' and know you inside and out, might as well talk to them like they are your best friends.

How about y'all? How are you doing recently on your 13 goals? No matter how many years you've been in the craft it's always a good thing to check back on the basics to see if you have them as down pat as you believe. I'm going to go work on mine how about you?

Paranormal Telly: Haven

Based on Stephen King’s “Colorado Kid”, the story takes place in Maine (why is it always Maine?) Haven is a town of special people who are 'cursed' or blessed with what many call the troubles,

The show begins with the arrival of Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) who was sent by the FBI to retrieve a convict who has escaped to the town. Once she arrives she partners with the local sheriff Nathan Wournos and his helped by his friend a local smuggler Duke Crooker who’s actions are always one shade lighter than legal who’s motives are up  in the air.

Personally I love the show because it captures you with it’s craziness, yet leaves you wondering what happened, why this town in particular.  Some of these troubles I would love to have, like the ability to control the weather..  some of these shouldn't exist and you can see why they need the sheriff & Audrey I’ll let you watch and figure out which ones I’m talking about.


These cast members are new to me, as I have never seen them as anyone else so I only know them as these characters which is great because then I don't have any preconceived notions about them. I'm itching to find out what happened to Audrey.

Paranormal Telly: Eureka

I remember when this show premiered, my sisters and I watched it. It was a nerds happy dream , a show about a town full of nerds. It was EPIC & I was hooked. ……… then life interviened………& I forgot all about it.


Checking out netflix the other night  they suggested Eureka, and I noted it and it was into it’s fifth season. I almost passed out, it’s been FIVE years??? Holy fracking heck That was crazy, so I thought, heck if it managed to stay on air for as long as it had it must still be good, so I checked it out. I decided to jump right into it and caught up with sheriff Carter & the town’s zaniest  characters.


I personally love the show because the town’s geniuses are so set on saving the world from itself that they tend to put it into danger themselves, and the poor “normal” sheriff Carter with his shear bravado and tons of common sense is always there to save the day along with his rag tag crew of friends, and a sexy arch enemy; Nathan Stark (OMG He's so hot)

If you haven’t given the show a chance before I’m telling you your missing out, from Sarah, to Zane and Joe, the show of course wouldn't be complete without Fargo, this show is amazing. It might not really fall under actual Paranormal Telly, but it's pretty darn close, it's paranormal with a scientific twist!!  Sometimes there are even tie ins with other shows like on Warehouse 13 & Alphas.
