KWW: Facial Masks

Welcome back to another fun week of kitchen witchin, did you like the recipes from last week??? Your probably wondering why I didn't put this under Sacred Pampering Ritual, & it's because we are going to be making this for SPR day. So to use it you gotta have it first right?!?! So here we go:
Your skin renews itself each day and completely renews itself with 30 to 40 days, depending on age.  At about 35 your skin cell renewal slows down.  To help it along we can use masks, there are two kinds: relaxing & stimulating.  Relaxing mask are used to moisturise the skin & help to 'refresh' the complexion. Stimulating masks are used to promote blood flow & smooth & firm the skin.

General Rules:
  • Before applying a mask make sure to cleanse skin with a facial toner that has lemon balm or use witch hazel.
  • Start at your chin and move upwards to the forehead. Apply tot he nose moving out to the cheeks. Make sure to leave space around the eyes, eyebrows & mouth.Lastly do your neck moving upwards to the chin.
  • Use warm water or a warm rag to remove the mask.
  • Use distilled water when making your masks.  If you must use tap water, boil it and allow to cool or use a filtration system.
Much of the ingredients for great dace masks come from the kitchen, like honey, oatmeal, whole wheat flour, rose water, milk, & strawberries.  I'm sure if you look hard enough you have many of the ingredients to make some kind of face mask, heck even just an egg acts as a great face mask for toning & tightening your skin. So making masks won't be expensive!!!

Ingredients:
  • Honey: relaxes the skin, it is also antibacterial which helps to disinfect the skin. It also renews the skin & helps promote healing.
  • Whole wheat flour protects & renews skin.  It contains vitamin E, an antioxidants that binds toxins, promotes cell respiration & slows the ageing process. The whole wheat grittiness will help remove dead skin cells, which will help promote skin renewal.
Masks:
Strawberry mask:
  • 4/5 very ripe, medium sized strawberries
  • 2 tsp heavy cream
  • 1 tsp honey
Directions:
Carefully rinse strawberries in lukewarm water and dry with a clean cloth or towel.  In a small bowl, mash the fruit with a fork. Add cream & honey & mix well.  Keep away from the eyes when applied to the face. leave on for 20- 30 minutes.  Contraindications: People with sensitive/ sunburned skin.

Whole Wheat Flour Mask:

  • 1 qt water
  • 4 tsp dried or 8 tsp fresh rose petals
  • peels from 1-2 organic oranges
  • 6 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp rose water
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 4 tbsp whole wheat flour
Boil the water & remove from the heat.  Add the rose petals & orange peels, cover & allow to steep until luke warm.  In a separate pan, heat the milk, floral water & honey. Remove from heat, add the flour and whisk into a thick paste.  Apply the warm paste to face & neck, leave on for 15 mins . Wash off the mask with the fragrant rose-orange water. Pat dry & apply moisturizer.

Rose Oil & Honey Mask for Mature Skin:

  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp almond oil
  • 5 drops rose oil
Mix ingredients together, then apply to face relax for 15 mins. Then rinse with warm water. Pat face & neck dry.

I hope this helps my loves, especially now that the weather is so harsh outside and drying to the skin.
Happy experimenting my loves,
