Synopsis:
Pushed by her dying father into a marriage with one of his friends, Charlotte Rutherford Wylde finds herself bound to an old man who disdains and ignores her. Miserable, furious, she determines to take drastic action, but before she can confront him, her husband is murdered in the dark London streets. From the moment Charlotte hears this upsetting news, she is subject to shock after shock. Her dead husband has spent the fortune she brought him, leaving her nearly penniless. His will reflects his obsession with the artifacts of ancient Rome, turning her home into a museum. And most astonishing of all, he had an entire family that he never mentioned. The fashionable Wyldes are as surprised to hear of Charlotte's existence as she is of theirs. To the charismatic Alec she is, at first, just another obligation in his overburdened life. He has to grapple with his dead relative's shady business dealings, an attempted robbery, and a suspicious Bow Street Runner. But it's not long before Alec realizes that there is nothing he would rather do than cherish the entrancing Widow Wylde

My Review:
This book took a little while to get there, but boy what a journey. I'm just....WOW, makes me glad i wasn't born then because women had no power or say whatsoever.

Married to a bitter, angry friend of her fathers, Charlotte is alone in her new home, surrounded by servants who don't respect her authority and a husband who disdains her very presence. When she decides to take her life in her own hands, the Fates hand her a different experience, her husband is murdered and she is now in charge of her own life. Or is she?? Charlotte being a dutiful daughter Charlotte got married to help her father feel like he had done his job, & taken care of her before he passed away; she did this because her father was suffering from Alzheimer's & declining slowly.

It was kind of an awesome, reminded me of an episode of Downton Abbey slightly turned on it's head. Boy a really good episode of Downton Abbey (which I love by the way & can't wait until it starts up again). I love the new romance that formed and that Charlotte had a backbone and decided what was best for her. She fumbled around for a bit trying to find her place in society & in the new family she had found herself in.

Really good, first time read from this author & can't wait to read the other sister's story. The love took a while to build between the characters (another moment like Mary & Matthew).  The adventure in getting there was very good & the villain is one you wouldn't have seen coming. I don't want to give anything else away so I'll leave you there!!!

A good must read for regency lovers. Happy Reading
