Book Review

Bite of Silence by Mary Hughes

Another book from Kindle store for free, this one was an actually good surprise read. Even though it is part of a series, this one is pretty good as it's own book.  It (I'm guessing because I haven't read the others) seems to be tying up loose ends from the other book and laying the ground work for another. When I picked it, I went off the cover( yes, yes i know never judge a book by it's cover, but this one came thru); the premise:
"Spartans' do it with discipline" and "Vampire hog the window seat.  Times Square on New Year’s Eve. A million partiers chanting the final seconds. This year, it’s a countdown to death.  My name is Twyla Tafel and I’ve uncovered an insane plot to unleash berserk vampires on those unsuspecting revelers. I have to stop it, armed only with my great admin skills, my useless art degree—and Nikos, a severely hot vampire who I’d love to photograph as a Spartan king roaring his muscular challenge at the Persians."

The plot goes very quickly, and the characters are really awesome. I love (as with any books I love) the strong female character, who knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to go after it. The conversations were witty; the plot and scenes not forced, they flowed together pretty well, even the action scenes were pretty good, for such a small book.

I loved it even more because she was Black, there aren't too many Black heroines in vampire novels now a days and it's nice to have the characters you imagine having some of your features.

I enjoyed reading this one as it was the first I have read from this author and it has been a great experience.  I give it a 4 out of 5 because I believe she could have stretched the book a little more and given us a little more on the characters, but overall it was good. An excellent read when you have the time and space on your TBR list.
Catching Caroline by Sylvia Day

Now this was a good fast read, it was also courtesy of the Kindle free download.

This is another first time read author, and she didn't disappoint. It's a novella which means it's a quick read. You jump right into the story and learn about the characters pretty quickly. I love when books give a sense that just because your reading it now doesn't mean the story really starts here, there is history that went on before and there will be more when you put the book down; but don't make it seem like your wondering into the middle of the book without a clue about what is going on. This book did it effortlessly, allowing us to meet and learn about Caroline, and it takes a little while for us to glean all the info we need on her and why the lead male character wants to catch her; but when it get there boy does it get there. I love it, a quick easy read, nothing too dark or dangerous, but it definitely is a good one. Although the male character exhibited a little bit of Edward Cullen's stalker behaviour, we can forgive him when you read the entire scene.

In case you don't get it "Edward Cullen stalker behaviour" is a no-no on the dating scene, I don't care how old you are, or how sexy you think it is.

This is a 4 out of 5 because I would have loved the story to go for a little bit longer, but it's a good read, especially because it's free.

Enjoy the reads my loves
Be Blessed
