Sunday Witch News: Repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell
Yesterday the Congress passed the repeal of the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell law which banned gays from openly serving in the military. This is a big fat YAYAY on our part, President Obama is expected to sign into law the beginning of this week, but the effect won't be felt for at least a year, as that's how long it will take to actually implement it.
For those of us who have taken the time to harass errr... I mean call our Senators and Congressmen and women and let them know our feelings on the ban, this is a victory. For the many gay men and women who risk their necks daily on our behalf? This is a big boon.
It doesn't however mean the job is over, their will still be more bans to overturn, including: gay marriage recognition by the military, sharing of benefits among a gay couple, adoption rights, and all the benefits that are given to a heterosexual couple. But this is a giant LEAP in the right direction
So that's our good news for today. I do however which they had passed the Dream Act, but that's for another day.
Blessed Be
.
