KWW 4 Magi Cake

 Directions:
  • 1 1/2 cups/ 6oz/175g flour, with a teaspoon of baking soda, a pinch of salt in a bowl with 6 tbsps of butter until the mixture resembles bread crumbs. gradually add 3/4 cup of water until the dough is light and non-sticky.knead gently, then cover and leave for about 20 mins, in the fridge.
  • roll out until 1/2 in thick, then fold in half and return to fridge for 20 mins
  • divide into 1/2 make a ball out of each piece and roll out into 9in pieces. Place each piece onto a cookie sheet.
  • make the filling: cream 6 tbsp butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. beat 2 egg yolks, and 4 to 5 drops of almond essence, 1/2 cups freshly ground almonds, 3 tbsp kirsch or other liqueur. Mix into a smooth paste and place in the center of the round base, only, leaving a small margin all around.
  • hide the object you have chosen to include ( a ring, or a stone) in the paste, make sure that they can stand the high temp of the oven. Beat an egg with a drop of water and use it to brush the margin of the lower circle of pastry, place the second pastry on top. Place the pastry in the fridge covered for 45 mins
  • cut out from the last of the pastry shell, a pentagram or a star and use the egg to bursh it on and place it on top of the pastry.
  • preheat the oven to 375f/190c/gas mark 5 . for 45 mins
  • Cut out a crown from gold foil and place on top
